Are white medical scrubs less popular now?

When white lab coat became less popular at one time, during the time green lab coats ruled the laboratories, there seems to be no indication that it would be able to overcome the test. The reason for using dark-colored lab coat is just more practical as putting on a comfortable pair of rubber shoes than wearing stiletto in a journey to a rugged road. That situation is somewhat being repeated between printed and white medical scrubs in the new generation. Will white medical scrubs do well as the white lab coats did? Or will printed scrub tops win?

Printed medical scrubs win in Pediatrics and OBGYN

Let’s pay several clinical and hospital departments a visit to check on the status of white and printed scrub tops popularity. Pediatrics is our first stop. Children are the ones needing attention in this department. This group of people is basically easy to please, although they are often stubborn. Simple things such as candies may be enough to make them smile. Children are playful as well, and their attention is often easily caught also by playful things like colorful toys. Most of pediatric wards make use of the latter child trait to help with the curing process or at least with convincing them to take medications; and wearing of printed medical uniforms is the primary tool used by nurses. At this point, printed medical scrubs win over white ones.

Proceeding to OBGYN, we’ll see more of the somewhat gross posters of human reproductive organs and their common illnesses. But because this department is also primarily dealing with how to procreate, many OBGYN clinics prefer making a nicer and lighter ambience by hanging baby pictures on the walls, reversing then the supposedly serious mood. Accordingly, gynecologists and nurse assistants prefer wearing printed scrub tops. The approach on medical uniforms in this particular department is more like in dental clinics, not too uniform-looking.

Printed in Internal Medicine while While in Surgery Dept.

On the other hand, when we go to internal medicine, we’ll find a more serious environment where the patients are adults. In this department, the use of white medical scrubs or should we say white hospital uniforms still is an apparent practice. In some hospitals though, colored nursing scrubs are suggested. And in some hospitals still, printed ones are allowed, except the tooniforms which will look odd, of course. This is so because adults, like normal people, have attachment to colors. They smile when they see they’re favorite color.

Stopping by the surgery department, we’ll see surgeons and nurses in white medical scrubs. This has something to do with the need to be extra clean. Contamination is the usual problem that occurs when garments aren’t properly washed because the stains weren’t noticeable enough. Hence, white hospital uniforms are preferred over printed scrubs and even green ones. Emergency medicine, in some hospitals, follows the same course. In clinical pathology, it’s normally expected to see almost everyone in white lab coats and scrubs due to the critical job.

Printed or colored wins once more - Psychiatric Ward

We’ll end the tour in psychiatric ward. In this particular department, it is required for psychiatrists to wear colored medical scrubs because patients tend to react violently when they see people in white, especially those in lab coats. Patients seem to have created the thinking that they are going to be harmed by people who wear white hospital uniforms. White medical scrubs definitely lost in this department.

This is generally the situation in most hospitals and clinics. Considering what has been observed, printed nursing uniforms are really becoming popular. But white scrub uniforms are still not in vain. Many medical practitioners remain with the tradition. Whichever is used in your department, online medical garments store like Pulse Uniform provide for scrub top needs. Check on Pulse Uniform to see complete selection of the latest and the finest.

I think printed medical scrubs are definitely becoming more popular, especially for health care professionals who work with children. They can wear more cute and colorful scrubs which may help make kids happier and more comfortable with the people that are taking care of them.
